KETONET: the app dedicated to the ketogenic diet

There are over 500 metabolic diseases and acquired conditions that every day require the elaboration of a special diet, a real life-saving therapy for the person who must follow it. Glucose transporter deficiency syndrome, type 1, is a rare pathology affecting brain metabolism, caused by insufficient transport of glucose to the brain. The ketogenic diet is today the only possible treatment, in which food is transformed into medicine and helps to nourish the brain, contributing to improve the quality of life of patients.

The Italian Association Glut1, which deals with stimulating and supporting scientific research and providing treatment and assistance to those affected by this pathology, has developed, thanks to the collaboration with the Politecnico of Milan and the Center for Studies and Research on Human Nutrition and Eating Disorders of the University of Pavia, as well as the support of Mitsubishi Electric, KETONET, an app dedicated to the management of ketogenic diet.

Downloadable for free at www.ketonet.it, the app allows easy and intuitive consultation of a database of customizable foods and recipes, food information and clinical data, with the possibility of having useful exchanges with doctors. An important step forward in the daily help for the families of patients with glut1 deficiency and in their path of integration and social inclusion.
