European Football Week Special Olympics

Among the most anticipated events of these days is surely the 16th edition of the European Football Week scheduled for the end of May, from the 21st to the 29th.

The event devoted entirely to one of the most loved sports involves around 50,000 Special Olympics athletes of fifty countries across Europe in a total of 420 events.

In Italy alone there will be 16 events organized in 10 different regions, involving approximately 4,000 athletes with and without intellectual disabilities.

The event goes beyond geographic and social boundaries, has the patronage of the Italian Football Foundation, the Lega Serie A, the Lega Serie B and the Italian Association of Football Coaches and which promotes unified football initiatives. It is an important project inspired by the mission of the #PlayUnified Campaign to motivate young people with and without intellectual disabilities to step onto the field and break down barriers together.

In support of the important initiative, during the 35th day of the Serie A Championships and over the 23rd to 25th April, all teams came on the field with a Special Olympics banner, and, during important matches between Fiorentina and Juventus and Roma and Napoli, two special athletes entered the field with the professional players.

In particular, the 2016 edition of the European Football Week aims to involve as many young athletes as possible, even the youngest under 12s, regardless of their skill level.

On this occasion, Mitsubishi Electric will again come out in support of the Special Olympics with renewed enthusiasm, in order to share in the value of integration and friendship that through sports helps us all to grow.
