Mitsubishi Electric supports the Badia Tennis Academy Association for the first edition of the ITF BTA Wheelchair Open tournament and promotes free introductory courses for wheelchair tennis

At Mitsubishi Electric, we see sport as a way to promote community well-being, encouraging inclusion and a healthy lifestyle.

That's why we are proud to support the non-profit Badia Tennis Academy, which, in collaboration with L’Onda ASD (an association focused on social inclusion for disabled youth) and the ITF (International Tennis Federation), organised the first ITF BTA Wheelchair Open in Badia Polesine, Rovigo, from 29th August to 1st September 2024.

Wheelchair tennis, which began in the late 1970s in the United States, has since spread globally and is now part of the "Grand Slam" tournaments: Wimbledon, Roland Garros, US Open, and Australian Open.

The tournament featured 25 top-level international athletes, showcasing exceptional competition and sportsmanship. Christina Pesendorfer stood out in the women's singles, securing victory with determination and skill. In the men's singles, Nicolas Charrier claimed the title, solidifying his status among the best in the circuit.

Following the success of the event, which helped raise awareness of the sport in the Rovigo community, the Badia Tennis Academy will offer free introductory wheelchair tennis courses from 2025, providing opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with the sport.

This initiative aims not only to promote an active, healthy lifestyle but also to foster inclusion and social participation, creating spaces for growth and connection through sport.
