Learn STEM disciplines in the slums of Nairobi

Alice for Children, an association that Mitsubishi Electric has been supporting for 11 years, is building two new classrooms in the schools it manages in the slums of Nairobi to host the laboratories of Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Art and Music.

Mistubishi Electric is alongside Alice for Children, an association that aims at guaranteeing the right to education and medical care in the slums of Nairobi, to allow students to continue their studies beyond primary school by introducing courses that include humanistic subjects in addition to scientific ones.

Project: Alice for Children

The disciplines in the STEAM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) play a crucial role in allowing students to access new job opportunities and encourage the development of countries. Alice for Children, an association that the Italian branch of Mitsubishi Electric has been supporting since 2011 and which is committed to offering a better future to children living in the slums of Nairobi, for 2022 has undertaken an ambitious project: to build two new areas of schools that the association manages in the slums, in order to host the laboratories of Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Biology, Art and Music, allowing pupils to continue their studies beyond primary school.

Thanks to the schools, the association now supports 3,000 children, mostly orphans, offering them not only primary and basic education, but also clothing and medical care and a hot meal a day.

The new areas will be equipped with computers, materials and all the appropriate tools to allow students to approach these disciplines, also in line with the new school system in Kenya which provides for a six-year primary school and a three-year junior high school during which kids will develop innovative skills. To help Alice for Children to create the new classrooms, equip them with desks and chairs and all the necessary teaching materials and technical-scientific tools, it is possible to make a donation via this link:https://www.retedeldono.it/it/progetti/alice-for-children/corriamo-insieme-per-i-bimbi-di-nairobi

Alice for Children is also involved in guaranteeing the right to medical care of the inhabitants of the areas in which it operates and together with the R.U. Neema Hospital in Nairobi has set up the first vaccination hubs in the slums of Dandora and Korogocho, within the schools in the two areas. A challenging but fundamental project which, starting with children and teachers, aims to vaccinate about 15,000 people.
