Our favourite school
It is located in Kenya and was built by Alice For Children to provide children and adolescents with a proper education and the chance to plan a decent life
Class Green 2 is the name of the Korogocho school class that Mitsubishi has been supporting for years, helping to remove the barriers that limit the future of these children
Project: Alice for Children
A piece of our heart is in Africa, in Korogocho, Kenya to be precise, where the Alice for Children school, with which our company has been collaborating for 11 years, is located.
This is where the children of the 'Green Class 2' are based, who started the 2023 school year at the end of January. A particularly important moment in an area where 60 per cent of high school students have to drop out.
This percentage increases as one moves towards contexts of absolute poverty such as rural areas and slums, where the Association has been working for over 15 years
According to UNESCO and World Bank data, 90% of children in sub-Saharan Africa who complete primary school are still unable to read and write correctly. Taking a child to school is not enough. One must be sure that he or she will receive a quality education and that this path does not come to an abrupt end, but instead guides him or her towards adulthood and entry into the world of work.
This, and much more, is what Alice for Children does every day. To get to know the reality in which the Association operates, but also to meet our little friends, a few months ago one of our colleagues went to Korogocho to visit the school and discover the projects developed in the area. She met many children and adolescents who were able to have access to education, who feel protected and cared for every day and whose future makes them less afraid. The aim of Alice for Children, together with Mitsubishi Electric, is to guide these children on a structured and comprehensive path so that they can receive a quality education so that their future can be better.
So for 2023 we would like to wish them all lots of 'bahati', a word that in Kenya is well-wishing, meaning 'good luck'!
